"Au Revoir"
This audiovisual installation is a reflection of my personal journey of coping with toxins, illnesses and stresses that have accumulated in my body and soul throughout my life.
It is my self-portrait, my ritual, my cleansing process.
I drew inspiration from the Kambo ritual, an intense and transcendent ceremony that induces physical and mental cleansing through the controlled release of toxins from the body. I translated the details of this ritual into my artwork.
I translated the intense physical reactions to this process - shortness of breath, redness, swelling, nausea and vomiting - into animation and sound motifs. The sound of restlessness, expressed through deep breathing and heartbeat, symbolizes the moment of cleansing through vomiting.
My work is both a fascinating look at the meaning and process of cleansing in the context of human life, and a meaningful insight into my own journey of dealing with my own inner demons and toxins.
